English radio station DJ Ramsey Jaynoor was yesterday ordered to be released from the case filed against him on charges of having harassed the Sri Lankan Pop, R&B and Jazz Singer Umariya Sinhawansa at the World Trade Centre car park.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage made this order on the advice of the Attorney General. The AG had informed the Court that he would not take further legal action against the suspect and as such he could be released from the case. The Fort Police which investigated the incident had sought the AG’s advice on this matter.

In a complaint to the Fort Police Children and Women’s Bureau, Ms. Umariya said that along with vocalist Bhathiya Jayakody she had participated in a television programme at a private TV station.

She alleged that when returning to the car park about 11.00 pm on November 2 last year, the suspect had obstructed her path and pulled her hand.

Ms. Umariya said Jaynoor had continued to harass her even though Bhathiya advised him to not to do so. She complained that after she got into the car, Jaynoor had prevented her from moving the vehicle.

However, the defence counsel denied the allegations made against his client and maintained that the complainant was his client’s girlfriend and that they were carrying on a love affair for about a year. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
