The UNP says it will oppose the government stand to continue with the executive presidency and will formally respond to the reforms proposals after the working committee meeting on Wednesday.

UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had a discussion with the party stalwarts today. UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake and MPs Lakshman Kiriella, Kabir Hashim, Mangala Samaraweera and Mr. Attanayake attended this meeting.

Attanayake told the Daily Mirror that the joint meeting of the parliamentary group and the working committee would be conducted on Wednesday at the party headquarters ‘Sirikotha’.

“There is no clarity on the five member committee which is to replace the Constitutional Council. It appears for us that this committee does not have enough teeth in making decisions. We doubt whether the government is trying to hoodwink us,” he said.
