The main opposition United National Party (UNP) yesterday raised concerns whether the army major, allegedly assaulted by Minister Mervyn Silva’s son Malaka, was under pressure from certain quarters to recant his earlier complaint through an affidavit.
UNP MP Ajith P. Perera told Parliament that it appeared to have been done under pressure.
Mr. Perera recalled that a Samurdhi official, who was tied to a tree, also withdrew his complaint in a similar manner.
“I want to know whether this army officer has stooped down to the level of that Samurdhi official,” he said.
Minister Mervyn Silva who was present at the time responded by launching a verbal attack on Mr. Perera.
