UNP today expressed suspicion that the reason for the postponement of the Sri Lanka Premier League is the disclosures made in the COPE with regard to the corruption at Sri Lanka Cricket.
UNP National List MP Dr. Harsha De Silva who came out on the subject at a news conference yesterday said the broadcasting rights of the SLPL had been given to a company in which a former cricket board official is the CEO.
This official he said had failed to name the directors of the company when he appeared before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) recently.
Besides Dr De Silva said rights of the tournament had been given to a Singaporean Company named Somerset Entertainment Ventures. He said no one is aware of this company and its directors.
He said it would be possible to probe all matters pertaining to the Sri Lanka Premier League if a Parliamentary Select Committee is appointed to investigate the alleged corruption with regard to Sri Lanka Cricket.
