A motion to put forward the Right of Information Bill was rejected by a majority of 63 votes when it was presented in Parliament by UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya, a short while ago.

Members of the UNP, JVP and TNA voted for the motion (34 votes), while 97 members voted against it.

The Bill was to be presented earlier this year but was prevented by the government which had assured that it would introduce a ‘Right to Information Act’ instead.
