UNP supporters clash in Matara; 7 injured

At least seven people were injured during a clash between two groups of UNP supporters in Matara a short while ago.

It was reported that three of them were injured due to a shootout during the protest march in the Matara town. The injured were admitted to the Matara Hospital.

A tense situation was reported when a group of UNP supporters staged a protest march against UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and clashed with another group, which also staged a march in support of Mr. Wickremesinghe.

Meanwhile, UNP Southern Provincial Councillor Nishantha Pushpakumara alias Raththaran, who opposed the protest march against the UNP Leadership, has been admitted to the Matara hospital with gunshot injuries.(Krishan Jeewaka Jayaruk)
