The main opposition UNP today said it would move towards calling for a Parliamentary Select Committee(PSC) to probe the substandard petrol issue.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a news conference that the party’s Parliamentary group will make the final decision on calling for a Select Committee on the fuel issue shortly.
MR. Attanayake said the Elyantha Whie issue would also be discussed as it is am important national issue just like the fuel drama. He said getting the sportsmen to obtain treatment from a physician was a violation ethics as the said physician is not registered with the Sri Lanka Medical Council or Aruvedic Physicians Council.
UNP General Secretary who elaborated on the fuel issue said authorities should reveal as to who gave orders to purchase the contaminated consignment. He said the transaction had to be carried out following orders of a powerful person when considering how procedures are carried out in the state today. “The powerful person who was behind the drama has to be revealed,” he said pointing out that the subject minister cannot run away from the responsibility.
With regard to the ruling given by the Courts in London which ordered the CPC to pay US $ 162 million plus interest, as payments due for oil hedging , Mr. Attanayake said his party gave a warning beforehand that payments will have to be made for this but it was ignored.
He said this will add up more burden on the people as it would be passed on to them.
