UPFA candidate granted bail

Former Southern Provincial Council (SPC) Minister A.S.A. Ajith Prasannahewa, who was held in remand prison custody while being treated at a private hospital in Colombo, was today granted bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate.

Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage who visited the hospital directed that suspect be released on bail with two sureties of Rs.500, 000 each. The suspect was ordered to appear in the Galle Magistrate’s Court on February 17.  

The retired army major was arrested on charges of having conducted his election campaign in violation of election laws and for having assaulted a policeman in Galle last week. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
