Several independent election monitoring bodies said that a voter turnout of over 50% was recorded at today’s Local Government polls.
PAFFREL (People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections) Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi speaking to Daily Mirror Online a short while ago stated that a voter turn out of about 55 – 60% has been recorded at today’s Local Government Polls.
However, CaFFE (Campaign for Free and Fair Elections) stated that the voter turnout is about 50 – 55% at the polls.
CaFFE Director Keerthi Tennakoon speaking to Daily Mirror Online today said that the best voter turnout has been recorded from Karthivu, Thirukkovil where the voter turnout has been recorded to be 60%. According to him the voter turnout in Jaffna is about 50% while Mulathivu and Kilinochchi have recorded turnouts of 52% and 55 %.
Meanwhile, CMEV (Centre for Monitoring Election Violence) stated that according to the figures they have received so far, the voter turnout is approximately around 50% at the polls today. (Daily Mirror Online)
