Women are an asset to the nation: Karalliyadda

The Minister of Child Development and Women’s Affairs, Tissa Karalliyadda said today that the ministry is introducing a five-year action plan this year to empower women and to uplift their living standards.

The Minister added this in his message for Women’s Day which falls tomorrow. Also he said that the country should invest in the advancement of education and career opportunities for women as they are an asset to the nation. Especially during the war women endured a lot of pain and suffering during the war and that their lives should be uplifted.

Meanwhile Deputy Minister, M.LA.M. Hizbullah said that the Ministry has identified the problems faced by women according to varying age groups they represent and have taken steps to implement development programmes for this purpose.
