A 47-year-old woman has complained to the Police Women and Child protection bureau that Colombo Municipal Councillor Mahinda Kahandagama of the UPFA had abducted and assaulted her in May last year.
Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said the woman had alleged that she was abducted at Kadawatha and thereafter released at Anuradhapura.
The Police are conducting investigations into the incident.
“We are looking into the complaint. We are also inquiring into the reason why the complaint took so long. If there is any evidence that the councillor was involved, the law will be enforced strictly,” SSP Rohana said.
