World cup bookies arrested

Around eleven bookies were arrested on Sunday for accepting bets on the India-Sri Lanka World Cup final.Police have recovered 10 mobile phones, two LCD televisions and two laptops from the the accused.

In a raid carried out at the Chira Bazaar and Shankar Wadi lanes, Mumbai Crime Branch officers arrested two people identified as Nilesh Ruparel, 38 and Ravi Ruparel, 22.

“We got a tip-off that Nilesh was accepting bets from a building in the Shankar Wadi lane. We then raided the premises,” said an officer.

In another incident, Pydhonie police raided Al Mauzzin Hotel at Dongri and arrested nine people. "All were accepting bets on the final. We have recovered nine mobile phones, an LCD tv and a laptop from them,” said an officer from Pydhonie Police Station
