Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) yesterday unveiled the country’s first Euro-spec fuel dispenser and launched European Emission Standard Euro 4 fuel, at a launch ceremony held at C.F. De Mel & Sons Filling Station, in Colombo 2.
The launch event was graced by Petroleum Resources Development Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, CPC Managing Director Neil Jayasekara and CPC Chairman Dhammika Ranatunga.
Euro 4 was introduced with the intention of replacing the existing 95 Octane petrol and Super Diesel 4 Star in order to provide consumers with a better product consisting of low emission and high efficiency.
Speaking at the launch of Euro 4, Arjuna Ranatunga said, “As a government-owned corporation, it is imperative that CPC supports the Government of Sri Lanka in transforming the energy sector by adapting to greener initiatives. By introducing carbon-conscious products such as Euro 4, not only are we able to contribute towards the global initiative of reducing carbon monoxide emission but we also enable the local consumers and industrial sector to reap the benefits of greener products that would improve the overall quality of life.”
Introducing a substitute such as Euro 4 to the local energy sector would enable the government to follow its vision by transforming its core energy products to meet the European Emission Standards.
“We, as a government entity, are positioning ourselves to become the forerunners in transformation of the country’s energy sector, with greener initiatives,” added Dhammika Ranatunga.
“We are grateful to our stakeholders who constantly keep us updated on the requirements for the corporation to improve the energy supply of the country in an economical and efficient manner.”
Euro 4 possesses two variants – petrol and diesel. Each variant is priced as the same cost per litre for petrol, as that of 95 Octane, which is Rs.148 per litre and for diesel, as that of Super Diesel 4 Star, which is Rs.119 per litre.
