Sri Lanka’s train service will be further boosted with the arrival of eight new train sets next month.
Sri Lanka is set to receive six new power sets from China and two from India.
First of these Chinese S-14 power sets was received this August.
According to the Transport Ministry, each power set costs US $ 10.3 million.
The state-of-the-art S-14 power set has two engines. It consists of two air conditioned compartments, two second-class compartments and three third-class compartments. There’s also a dining compartment.
These are specially designed to operate in the hill country.
Meanwhile, the Railways Department said a new train would be in service from Kandy to Colombo Fort at 4:30 a.m. from today.
The same train will return to Kandy, departing Colombo Fort Station at 5:20 p.m. every day.
