Pakistan High Commissioner Major General Shakeel Hussain will be the special guest speaker at a session on ‘Bilateral trade between Sri Lanka and Pakistan’ organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the chamber auditorium, No: 450, D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha, Colombo 10.
He will be accompanied by Deputy High Commissioner Dr. Sarfraz Sipra. At the session, the participants will get an opportunity to interact with the Pakistan High Commissioner and officials of the High Commission on trade-related matters.
Pakistan is rich in natural resources, main industries being agricultural and industrial - rice, fruits, textile and apparel, pharmaceuticals, food processing, construction, etc. It is the sixth most populated country, exceeding 199 million people. The capital is Islamabad. The other major cities are Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi. East Pakistan became Bangladesh from 1971.
Sri Lanka exports coconut, natural rubber, copra, tea, betel leaves, spices, etc., to Pakistan. From Pakistan Sri Lanka imports Portland cement, aluminous cement, woven fabrics of cotton, rice, medicaments and edible oils.
