The Overseas School of Colombo (OSC) has marked a monumental achievement winning Gold at the 2024 International ARC Awards for its 2022/23 Annual Report. This recognition places OSC as the first IB World School globally and the first educational institution in Sri Lanka to claim this honour, reflecting its dedication to transparency, sustainability, and educational excellence.
The ARC Awards, often referred to as the ‘Academy Awards of Annual Reports’, are organised by MerComm Inc. and attract more than 1,000 entries annually from over 30 countries. They represent the pinnacle of achievement in corporate communication, honouring institutions that set the benchmark for innovative and effective reporting. With a panel of over 200 esteemed communication professionals evaluating entries, only the top 30 percent of submissions earn honours, making OSC’s achievement all the more significant.
OSC’s victory showcases its unwavering pursuit of innovation in governance, communication, and holistic education. This accolade aligns OSC with global powerhouses like BMW, International Finance Corporation (IFC), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), McDonald’s, Save the Children, Walmart, Carlsberg, and Alibaba, reinforcing its status as a leader in international education.
Led by Dr. Michelle Kleiss, OSC has navigated many domestic challenges with resilience, from the COVID-19 deadly pandemic to the country’s economic crisis, further cementing its progressive and adaptive ethos.
OSC’s 2022/23 Annual Report, themed ‘1957 - 2022: Our Progressive Spirit Continues’, is not just a document but a testament to the school’s enduring legacy of excellence and growth. It reflects the institution’s ability to evolve while maintaining its core values of transparency, sustainability, and commitment to its community. The report celebrates OSC’s role as Sri Lanka’s oldest internationally accredited educational institution and highlights its forward-thinking approach to delivering world-class education.
Jehan de Silva, who heads OSC’s branding, marketing, and communications, was instrumental in crafting the award-winning report. Expressing his pride, Jehan said, “Winning Gold at the ARC Awards is a bona fide testament to OSC’s unwavering dedication. This achievement epitomises the institution’s collective effort, creative vision, and dynamic spirit.”
The 2022/23 Annual Report is also a reflection of OSC’s progressive educational philosophy. As a future-focused learning hub, OSC continues to excel in delivering the globally recognised IB curriculum, emphasising relevance, creativity, and innovation. This holistic approach ensures that students receive an education that is timely, impactful, and deeply rooted in real-world applications.
As OSC celebrates this remarkable achievement, the school remains steadfast in its commitment to continuous improvement. The Gold Award serves as both a recognition of past achievements and a motivator for future innovation. OSC is not just content with setting the standard; it is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of educational excellence, proving that true success is a journey, not a destination. With a focus on creativity, adaptability, and forward-thinking, OSC continues to lead by example, inspiring educational institutions in Sri Lanka and around the world.
