Sincerely Ceylon, a charity founded in 2021 by students Shehzad Rajkotwala and Maya Vitarana, has rapidly grown into a beacon of hope for vulnerable communities across Sri Lanka.
With a mission to uplift those in need, the organization has embarked on a series of impactful projects, ranging from supporting orphanages to aiding rural villages, and collaborating with other non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
The charity’s journey began with a modest yet meaningful book drive aimed at a local orphanage, resulting in the donation of nearly 400 books. This initial success fueled Sincerely Ceylon’s ambition to address broader issues, such as food shortages plaguing several orphanages. Despite significant challenges, including the difficulty of sourcing milk powder, the organization managed to make critical donations to five orphanages in the Colombo area.
As Sincerely Ceylon continued to expand its reach, the organization identified a rural village in Balapitiya grappling with the severe impacts of the economic crisis. In response, the charity conducted four rounds of dry ration donations, distributing nearly 5,000 kilograms of essential supplies to more than 110 families, providing much-needed relief during these trying times.
The charity’s efforts did not stop there. Amidst the economic collapse, rising domestic abuse rates led Sincerely Ceylon to partner with a local NGO: specialising in helping victims of abuse. Together, they launched a campaign involving the design and sale of authentic t-shirts, an initiative that raised a quarter of a million rupees. The funds were instrumental in providing legal aid, mental health support, and essential resources to victims of domestic abuse.
Upcoming projects include working with talented local artists to auction paintings to raise funding for a dry rations drive targeting a local village down south.
