The Sri Lanka – Japan Business Council (SLJBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in its 45th AGM re-elected Mahen Kariyawasan - Managing Director Andrew The Travel Company (Pvt) Ltd., for the year 2024/25.
Vice Presidents elected were Ruwan Waidyaratne - Managing Director, Hayleys Advantis Ltd., Athulla R. F. Edirisinghe – Director, Hirohama Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd., Rohitha Mendis - Managing Director of Prudential Shipping Lines (Pte) Ltd., Chanaka Kariyapperuma – Proprietor, ASOL Traders, and Sarath De Costa- Managing Director of Amano Lanka Engineering (Pvt) Ltd. Merrick Gooneratne of Tos Lanka Company (Pvt) Ltd will continue to serve the committee as the immediate past president.
The committee consist of representatives from Brandix Apparel Limited, Dentsu Grant (Pvt) Ltd, Heritage Teas (Pvt) Ltd, Lanka Harness (Pvt) Limited, Venora International Projects (Pvt) Ltd, Spear International (Pvt) Ltd and Vidullanka PLC.
The President highlighted the Council’s efforts to foster business relations with Japan, including providing insights to promote bilateral trade and investment between the two countries, including how best to leverage business opportunities in the two countries.
In view of the Osaka Expo scheduled to be held in 2025, Kariyawasam stressed the importance of seizing such opportunities to enhance trading activities and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
The Business Council was honored with the Japan Foreign Minister’s Commendation Award for 2024, presented to the President Japan Ambassador to Sri Lanka Hideaki Mizukoshi. This award was given in recognition of the Council’s unwavering support in strengthening bilateral trade, tourism, and investment ties between Sri Lanka and Japan.
The Sri Lanka – Japan Business Council has played a vital role in promoting trade, tourism, and investments between the two nations.
