The paddy cultivators in Monaragala and Buttala have started the Maha cultivation and they are at present applying fertiliser to the two-week-old paddy. However, they expressed their concern about not receiving the fertiliser subsidy provided by the government. They are hopeful that the government would focus on this issue and resolve it soon. They further said that they have cultivated a larger acreage in the Maha season, in the hope of receiving the increased fertiliser subsidy.
