Ceylon Chamber forum on ‘24X7’ Customs operation today

The import section of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce together with the Sri Lanka Customs and Sri Lanka Ports Authority is to hold a forum to discuss the latest decision of the government to operate the ‘Customs’ 24X7.

The forum which is to be held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute today, will help stakeholders understand the operational benefits and the processors involved in the 24x7 operating system.

Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake, Director General of the Customs, Jagath P. Wijeweera and Dr. Lakdas Panagoda, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority are expected to speak at this forum.

The Import Section of the Ceylon Chamber invites all stakeholders in the trade to attend this forum and to clear all impending issues pertaining to the 24x7 operation of the Customs.

The participants will be given an opportunity raise questions during a panel discussion, which is expected to be attended by the senior officials of Sri Lanka Customs, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Banks and  other relevant sector representatives  .

Commenting on this initiative, Chairman of Import Section Dinesh De Silva said, “The move to operate the Customs around the clock is seen as a pragmatic step taken by the government, to help ease and speed up the Import and Export documentation clearing process”.
