Major Indonesian retailer MAP to enter Sri Lanka

A major Indonesian retailer is expected to enter Sri Lanka by opening a subsidiary, according to Jatinder Biala, the outgoing President of Sri Lanka-Indonesia Business Council.  

Biala addressing the council’s Annual General Meeting held recently said Indonesia’s Mitra Adiperksha (MAP), a company listed in the Jakarta Stock Exchange, was planning to enter Sri Lanka.

“Very soon they are opening a subsidiary in Sri Lanka and, hired popular Bollywood actress and our own Sri Lankan Jaqueline Ferdinanez as their Brand Ambassador,” Biala said. 

MAP operates 1,900 stores in 65 Indonesian cities and has a staff of more 23,000 employees. 

MAP also has 150 brands under its belt and already has taken steps to promote its products in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has four supermarket operators: Cargills, Keells, Arpico and Laugfs. Among them, Cargills has the largest reach with over 200 supermarkets.
