Smart city will transform Sri Lanka into a digital city: FITIS Chairman

In developed countries there are not many new business opportunities for potential investors. But, in contrast, there are bigger prospects and ample avenues for new investments in a fast developing country like 
Sri Lanka, said Chairman of the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS), Chinthaka Wijewickrama at the 17th China International Optoelectronic Exposition (CIOE 2015)
 in China recently.
“As a country which has tremendous potential for new investment opportunities, Chinese entrepreneurs can look forward to a rewarding experience by embarking on viable business enterprises, either individually or through partnerships in Sri Lanka”, Wijewickrama added.
The international event was held at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center (SZCEC) in Shenzhen, China. The China International Optoelectronic Exposition (CIOE 2015), the largest optoelectronic trade show in the world, is a world-renowned event bringing the most advanced optoelectronics technologies and innovations to thousands of visitors from across greater China and over 70 countries worldwide, annually.  
With a strong bond built over the years with companies and professionals in the field of optoelectronics, CIOE is committed to supporting the industry’s continuous growth and technological development. Manufacturers of optoelectronic goods and service providers from across China offer smart city solutions. This year, the smart city partner of electronics was awarded to smart home and planning a smart city. He noted that there are many areas of potential business and partnerships in Sri Lanka for investment purposes, including energy, energy saving, transportation, health care, water, water management, waste, waste management and also creating smarter citizens. At this exhibition, the FITIS Chairman was given the opportunity of addressing the Mayors’ Forum, where mayors from across China were present. 
Wijewickrama explained to the audience the initiative Sri Lanka has taken to building a smart city and create a smart home. He stressed on the growth factors Sri Lanka has achieved over the past few years in the technology and economic spheres. With political stability and a conducive environment, companies from China can come and invest in commercial ventures in Sri Lanka and be partners of our success.
He said plans for a smart city will transform Sri Lanka into a digital city and also make it an intelligent city. “We invited the Chinese Mayors and representatives of smart homes and solutions companies to be a partner at the INFOTEL - 2015 Exhibition scheduled to be held  in Colombo from November 20 -22, 2015. This prestigious event can then showcase new and modern technology from countries such as China so that they can establish successful business ventures in Sri Lanka.
The CIOE 2015 in China comprised five concurrent expositions held across 110,000 sqm, which hosted over 3,000 exhibitors in the fields of optical communication, laser and infrared applications, precision optics, lens and camera modules, LEDs and smart cities. The Emerging Star of CIOE 2015 was the China Smart City Innovation Industry Conference.
