Hutch celebrates 25 years of operations in Sri Lanka

Mobile services provider Hutchison Telecommunications Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. (Hutch) this week celebrated 25 years of operations in Sri Lanka, reaffirming its commitment towards bridging the connectivity divide in Sri Lanka, by empowering the nation with high quality mobile broadband experiences and affordable communication services.
Hutch is parented by CK Hutchinson Holdings, the Global Fortune 500 Conglomerate in diversified industries. Hutch acquired the Call-link operation in 1997 and has deployed all generations of technology, including operating one of the largest fully fledged 4G broadband networks in the nation. 


After merging Etisalat Telecommunications Group’s Sri Lanka subsidiary in 2018, the Hutch 4G network now spans nearly 95 percent of Sri Lanka’s population and is also poised in 5G readiness. The company currently serves a customer base of over 4 million


Hutch has invested over US$ 500 million, over the 25 years in the country barring the investment made to acquire Etisalat in 2018, and has contributed to the economy substantially through the value chains and government incomes through taxes, levies, and telecommunication charges. 


The company also supports income to over 75,000 people nationally who are directly and indirectly attached in the provision of its services. 
The company has advanced through unique innovations and value propositions that are aimed at solving the real communication challenges for the people of the country including bridging the digital divide, rural connectivity, affordable communications, and a high standard of internet and calling experience.
