The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) expressed commitment to further supporting Sri Lanka’s socio-economic development needs across diverse sectors.
In a meeting with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Colombo this week, JICA Director General South Asia Sakamoto Takema affirmed that support will be offered in addition to assistance already extended to Sri Lanka.
President Rajapaksa highlighted the need for support from JICA to boost agriculture, skills development, health, and irrigation for the year 2022.
At present, JICA has extended assistance to Sri Lanka in 14 projects with a funding of US$ 2,500 million. The projects are mainly concentrated in the sectors of Power, Water Supply and Drainage, Ports, Transport, Health, Telecommunication, and Rural Development
Since 1965, Sri Lanka has obtained Japanese Official Development Assistance amounting US $ 8,829 million for 120 development projects.
