Maliban, one of the largest manufacturers, distributors and marketers of bakery products in Sri Lanka, issued a statement today on their take on the ongoing economic crisis in the country.

Following is their statement in full:

“At this unprecedented and turbulent period in the history of our nation, as a truly Sri Lankan enterprise that evolved with inspiring goodness for over seven decades, our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with fellow Sri Lankan consumers and stakeholders, who are experiencing untold hardships due to unsustainable macro-economic conditions.

We also note with quiet admiration, the deep resilience and cultured restraint of our Sri Lankan public and notably our aspiring youth, as we stand in unison with their noble aspirations to guide Sri Lanka to regain our lost glory and place of pride; built on sound transparent policies, good governance and apolitical approach based on mutual respect among all stakeholders.

As a nation which has successfully overcome a multitude of trials and tribulations in the past, we are confident of overcoming this period of economic uncertainty. Thus, Maliban extends their fullest support to the peaceful and respectful social movement, to re-energize our nation and push for a merit based political and social system to regain our growth momentum and economic stability.”
