Tourist arrivals to the country for the month of March is well on track to record 125,000, provisional data from Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority shows.
For the first 30 days of March, the island nation has welcomed 120,893 international visitors and has a daily arrival average of 4,029.
Based on the momentum in the inflow of tourists into the country for March thus far, it is expected the month will close with about 125,000 tourists.
The month of March already has recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals for the year. In January and February, Sri Lanka welcomed 102, 545, and 107,639 international visitors, respectively.
March became the third consecutive month for tourist arrivals to surpass the 100,000 mark, a first since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Accordingly, the cumulative arrivals for 1 January to 30 March stood at 331,007.
The Russian Federation continues to remain the largest tourist traffic generator for Sri Lanka as it accounted for 20 percent of the total arrivals.
Ranking second is India, bringing in 15 percent of the total arrivals, and third is the United Kingdom generating 9 percent of the total tourist traffic
