Colombo is considered to be the most developed in terms of IT infrastructure and knowledge, however, it is not anymore the birthplace of "interesting" startups, says Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA).
The best of the Internet of Things (IoT) startups are not from Colombo anymore and are from the Northern region of Sri Lanka, said ICTA Chairman and Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) Oshada Senanayake while addressing the Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2021 today.
Senanayake expressed confidence in the local startup ecosystem playing a significant role in bringing the IT industry towards the aspired US$ 3 billion mark, for which he said is imperative to empower startups across the country and establish regional hubs.
In recent months, the ICTA initiated startup hubs in the Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and the Central province.
