In an effort to promote the island nation under banner ‘Sri Lanka a Gateway to South Asian Meetings & Events Industry’, the Tourism Development Authority said plans are afoot to host regular physical events that will cater to the MICE market.
Following the success of the first MICE related Expo that was held recently, Sri Lanka Tourism Chairperson Kimarli Fernando said the authority looks forward to collaborating with the relevant stakeholders to formulate a ‘solid’ plan and the required strategies to cater to the MICE market.
According to Fernando, the changes witnessed in MICE tourism after the Covid-19 pandemic offer Sri Lanka the opportunity to attract travellers under this category.
The recently held Virtual MICE Expo provided a platform for international MICE buyers to meet more than 50 local exhibitors. The event was organised by Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association of Professional Conference, Exhibition and Event Organisers (SLAPCEO).
The event facilitated four business forums which shared the expertise and knowledge for the local industry to position Sri Lanka as a top MICE destination in Asia.
