Capital Market Masters, the inter-capital market school quiz cluster two competition of stage one, organised by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) in collaboration with the Education Ministry and Presidential Secretariat, was successfully completed in Anuradhapura recently.
Over 200 individuals attended the event, where schools representing established Capital Market Clubs in the Northern province, North Central province and Northwestern province, competed.
J/Kokuvil Hindu College from the Northern Province emerged as the overall cluster two winner as well as the Northern province winner. Royal Central College Polonnaruwa and Ku/Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya secured the provincial titles in the North Central province and Northwestern province, respectively.
Addressing the students at the event, SEC Senior Manager and External Relations Sheena Goonaratna stated, “We believe that an informed investor is an empowered investor—one who can navigate the complexities of financial markets, identify opportunities and effectively mitigate risks. As the regulator of the securities market, the SEC is mandated to ensure that investors are well informed and protected in this dynamic environment.”

She further said, “Financial literacy is a vital life skill and it is crucial to teach schoolchildren about the importance of savings, investments and the role and benefits of the capital market. Educating children about the capital market from a young age will equip them with the skills and knowledge to invest wisely throughout their lives, increase their confidence in financial concepts and enhance their decision-making abilities.”
A group of organisations have come together as sponsors to make the Capital Market Masters quiz competition a reality. Platinum Sponsors: Bartleet Religare Securities (Pvt.) Ltd and First Capital Holdings PLC, Nutrition Partner: Maliban Milk (Pvt.) Ltd and Stationary Partner: Luminex PLC.
With the conclusion of the second provincial competition, attention now turns to cluster three, where the best and brightest of schools in the Central province will gather to compete for the title of Capital Market Masters.
