State Min calls for capacity building in tea smallholder sector

The State Ministry of Company Establishment Reforms called on the need to strengthen the capacity and capabilities of the planters if the national economy is to be strengthened.

State Minister of Company Establishment Reforms, Tea Estate Crops, Tea Factory Modernization, and Tea Export Diversification Kanaka Herath called on the need for the tea sector to receive improved emphasis after the setback faced due to the pandemic.

“Amidst all these problems, we are working to strengthen the smallholders who contribute to the national economy. We have allocated Rs. 4,000 billion from this budget for the purpose. We hope to use the said sum to develop new methods to increase tea production,” Herath said, addressing an event at the Tea Small Holdings Development Authority.
