Passengers traveling from the southern African region will be banned from entering Sri Lanka from tomorrow (28, Sunday) due to concerns over the detection of the new variant 'Omicron', the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced today.

 

CAA Director General Capt. Themiya Abeywickrama in a statement to the media said, having received instructions from the Director-General of Health Services, passengers with travel history, including transit, to South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Eswatini (Swaziland) in the past 14 days will not be permitted to arrive in Sri Lanka with effect from 28 November 2021.

 

Following the discovery of a view Covid-19 variant in South Africa, several countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, and Singapore imposed travel restrictions.
