The temporary bridge connecting Matara town and Pigeon Island was declared open to the public yesterday by Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva.

The bridge leading to the island collapsed into the sea on March 4th, injuring several people who were travelling on the bridge.

Troops of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers undertook the constructions of the temporary alternative bridge to link the Pigeons Island and Matara town. This bridge facilitates the movement of visitors to the temple in the Pigeons Island.
