Air Sea Rope Rescue (ASR) practical training session is being conducted along the shoreline of Panadura this morning. The training exercise which is being done as part of the No. 8 Air Sea Rescue basic and refresher course for Fire fighters, Gunners and Air Gunners is being conducted by No. 4 Helicopter Squadron at Air Force base Rathmalana using a Bell 212 utility helicopter. The Sri Lanka Naval Base Rangala is also deploying an Inshore Patrol Craft (IPC) with divers and lifesavers (4RS) throughout the operation.

In preparation for today’s sea drill the squadron conducted dry runs at SLAF Rathmalana yesterday, the air force said.

The trainees are capable of emergency rescue of persons who are trapped in burning buildings as well as floods, landslides and other natural disaster situations. Also they were trained with first aid and trauma management, it added. Pix by Samantha Perera and airforce.lk
