Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva was the only spark in an otherwise horrendous batting effort by the Sri Lanka A players against West Indies A in Jamaica yesterday. Hosts declared overnight on 364 for 8 but soon wrest control of the four-day game reducing Sri Lanka for 201 for 7 at stumps.

Former Sri Lanka test player De Silva, batting at No. 3 stroked 104 off 143. His knock included ten fours and three sixes and when he was dismissed, Sri Lanka A were reeling at 181 for 6. Allrounder Wannindu Hasaranga was the next highest scorer for the visitors with 24 followed by Dasun Shanaka who made 20.

The pace of Sheldon Cottrell and Keon Joseph and the leg-spin of Damion Jacobs accounted for two wickets each while off-spining allrounder Rahkeem Cornwall picked up the wicket of Hasaranga as Sri Lanka A slipped to 201 for 7 in 53 overs, still 163 behind hosts first innings total.

Sunil Ambris hit a masterful century as West Indies A reached 364 for 8 against Sri Lanka A on a rain-affected second day in Florence Hall, Jamaica.

The overnight partnership of Vishaul Singh and Ambris was finally broken by Asitha Fernando, who bowled the former for 81. Three more wickets fell on the day, with Chamika Karunaratne dismissing centurion Ambris and Rahkeem Cornwall (36 off 64 balls) and Malinda Pushpakumara having Damion Jacobs (15 off 45 balls) stumped - it was keeper Sandun Weerakkody's third stumping of the innings.

Sheldon Cottrell (2 not out) and Keon Joseph (1 not out) were at the crease when rain stopped play in the day's 44th over.

West A make solid start

Sri Lanka A bowlers bearing left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara failed to impress as West Indies A made a solid start to their first of the three-match unofficial Test series against Sri Lanka A in Jamaica yesterday.

At stumps on day one they put on 23 for 4 on day one with Sunil Ambris, Vishaul Singh and John Campbell all making half centuries. Sri Lanka A skipper Dananjaya de Silva employed eight bowlers, including himself to derails West Indies solid start but West Indies responded strongly.

Sunil Ambris and Vishaul Singh shared an unbroken stand of 91 and will be looking to put on a big score on the board. John Campbell was one of two stumpings to keeper Sandun Weerakkody, who also effected the run-out of captain Shamarh Brooks. He proved to be the most effective of Sri Lanka's players after they were put in to field, followed by left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara who picked up 2 for 62.
