The Court of Appeal today vacated an interim order staying the election of Sri Lanka Cricket and asked Attorney General’s Department to prepare a roadmap to hold elections. Accordingly fresh nominations will be called once the date of the election is fixed.
The Court of Appeal on May 30, issued an Interim Order staying the election of new office bearers for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) scheduled for May 31 till June 14, 2014 on a writ petition filed by former Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga.
The Court also allowed Minister of Sports to appoint suitable person to conduct the election.
The former SLC Secretary Ranatunga had filed this writ petition in the Court of Appeal seeking a writ order preventing the SLC and its office bearers from permitting Thilanga Sumathipala to hold the post of SLC President in any manner whatsoever after the SLC election scheduled to be held on May 31, this year.
However, the Court of Appeal did not issue any order in respect of Thilanga Sumathipala and the case is set for June 4 as petitioner will challenge the eligibility of the candidature of Thilanga Sumathipala
The petitioner cited 27 persons including incumbent SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala, Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha, members of the SLC Election Committee, members of SLC Executive Committee and several others as respondents
