A fine knock of 120 in 103 balls inclusive of ten boundaries and four sixes by Sri Lanka U19 discard Hirun Kapurubandara which was his second ton in five days was in vain as it could not prevent De Mazenod College Kandana pulling off a close three runs win on Parabola system over St. Joseph’s College in the Under 19 inter-school limited over tournament encounter played at Kandana.

The match restricted to 38 overs saw St. Joseph’s thanks to Kapurubandara and Abishek Jayaweera made a modest score of 245 for 5 and De Mazenod helped by Janith Karindra who cracked a 89 ball knock of 84 with four boundaries and three sixes was on 236 for 6 having faced 34.5 overs when the match was called off due to bad light which ensured a close three runs on Parabola for the Mazenodians.

S. Thomas’ Mt Lavinia along with Royal, St. Sebastian’s Moratuwa, Thurstan, Mahanama Colombo, Isipathana, St. Servatius Matara, St. Thomas Matara and Sri Sumangala Panadura came out on top in the other matches that were played. (M. Shamil Amit)
