Mar. 18 (Daily Mirror) - Half-tons by skipper Vihas Thewmika, Dinal Induwara, and Shanikya Deshapriya laid the foundation for Thurstan to record a convincing 99-run win over traditional rivals Isipathana in the 44th Battle of the Brothers limited-over encounter played at the P. Sara Stadium yesterday.
The trio’s knocks helped Thurstan, taking first lease of the wicket, make a formidable score of 251 runs.
Isipathana, in pursuit of 252 runs, was never going to be in the run chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals. They succumbed to Thurstan’s bowling pair of Vishwa Dhananjaya and Thanuga Palihawadana, who together shared seven wickets, and were able to muster a score of only 152 runs.
Result:
At P. Sara Stadium - Thurstan won by 99 runs
Thurstan 251/9 in 50 overs (Vihas Thewmika 61, Dinal Induwara 59, Shanikya Deshapriya 50, Tanuja Rajapakse 27, Mulitha de Costa 18; Sithuka Gunawardena 3/30, Chanul Dinoth 3/48)
Isipathana 152 in 39.4 overs (Ruchith Rodrigo 47, Maleesha Sandaruwan 39, Tharushsa Ashel 24; Vishwa Dhananjaya 4/35, Thanuga Palihawadana 3/25)
