The fifth stage of Abans ambitious CSR initiative “From your laptop to their future” marked its presence at the Abans Head Office recently. This event was dedicated towards presenting deserving students with a laptop of their own to help accomplish their dreams.
The nation is privy to thousands of students in Sri Lanka who are exceedingly talented however face difficulties in reaching their goals due to shortcomings in the support provided by schools and at home with regard to social and financial limitations. Overwhelmed with immeasurable happiness many students described their emotions as “a dream come true” getting them closer to the future they have envisioned for themselves.
Over the years Abans has placed immense emphasis on lending a helping hand to society in more ways than one. The lack of educational facilities available to numerous individuals across the country has been of growing concern to the organization. Aban Pestonjee, Chairperson of the Abans Group along with the continuing support of the board of directors introduced this CSR initiative to help underprivileged students excel in their respective lives in turn building a better future for the country.
This CSR initiative facilitated the distribution of laptops to 29 students from various parts of the country. However to make this initiative possible, consumers played an integral role by making contributions to the cause when they purchased laptops at Abans. Students in the age group of 14-21 years from across the nation were given the opportunity to write to Abans describing how the laptops would assist them in their education. Following this, a careful selection process was implemented upon to ensure the most deserving were gifted with this opportunity. Moreover, from 2014 to date more than 200 laptops have been distributed through this CSR project thereby successfully giving students a chance to turn their dreams into reality.
Chatura Jayawardene, Director of Abans IT Solutions welcomed the students and briefly outlined the criteria on which they had been fortunate to be selected to receive a computer from Abans. He said “from over 500 applications received, the recipients were chosen on the basis of current education status, family background, educational excellence and financial status.”
After presenting the laptops, Pestonjee advised the students to use their laptops effectively to further enhance their education and become good citizens of Sri Lanka and contribute to the prosperity and development of our nation. She also stressed that upon completion of their studies, anyone of them who wished, would be welcome to join the Abans team.
Over the years Abans has earned widespread recognition for being the largest and exceedingly successful IT hardware Reseller Island wide with a reputation equally famous for giving back to society in umpteen ways. Abans is the market leader for IT in Sri Lanka, sheltering the world’s best brands such as HP, DELL, Acer and Lenovo. This is an ongoing project and students can still write to Abans if they want to stand a chance to get a laptop that will assist them in their educational progress. Abans has taken a genuine heartfelt step towards the betterment of society by launching “From your laptop to their future” to empower bright young minds that hold within them the potential to be future leaders of our nation.
