Give2Lanka (Gte) presented its first major donation, a cheque of Rs. 1.5 million, to Berendina Micro Finance Institute at a function held at the Royal Colombo Golf Club recently. Vice President of GiveIndia, Vikas Puthran, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
The monetary donation will enable Berendina to expand its scholarship program that benefits education, career counseling, higher education and employment linkages for 2,250 deserving children. In addition, Give2Lanka has made contributions in assistance of Sasanka Jagath Alwis, a Samurdhi beneficiary student from Royal College who has been in a state of coma for the past three years.
Currently, Give2Lanka covers more than nine worthy causes and runs a crowd funding platform to provide a lifeline for deserving causes addressed by trusted local NGOs. Our country’s recent classification as a middle income country has caused the suspension of over 9 key international funding channels. Such major channels include NORAD, SDC,Novib, Helvetas, the Dutch Embassy and DFID.
Give2Lanka is dutifully led by Dulan de Silva, former Executive Chairman of the Berendina Group and is ably supported by four private sector company directors and two development professionals on the board of directors.
