In its quest to preserve the resplendent gift of water, S-lon announced another edition of S-lon ‘Diyasara Student Circle’, which was aimed at creating awareness on the depleting environmental resources and water preservation amongst school children.
The initiative by S-lon Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., in association with Newsfirst, went underway ceremoniously at WetiyaDharmapalaVidyalaya in Hambantota recently.
Following the welcome address by the Principal of the school, R.R. Ranasinghe, the event was made colourful with special performances of Viridu, drama and a dance item by the students.
This was followed by a guest lecture on water conservation by L.A.M.P. Gunawardana of Rajarata University. S.C. Weerasekera, Group Director of The Capital Maharaja Organisation Ltd., also addressed the students on the importance of respecting nature and preserving it for the future generations. He further elaborated on how destruction of trees causes natural disasters such as earth slips and floods.
‘Diyasara Student Circle’ came into existence as a spinoff of S-lon’s in-house quarterly magazine ‘Diyasara’, which highlights environment and water related issues plaguing the nation. The aim of this unique CSR initiative is to educate and create awareness on environmental concerns and the need for water conservation among children, the future generation of Sri Lanka.
