Weeks after the wake of cyclone ‘Roanu’, many families and children are still struggling to get their lives back to normal and back on track. In addition to the damage to property and loss of essential items, many schoolchildren have lost their school books and notes amongst other valuables to the floods and landslides.

The employees of Sri Lanka Telecom’s (SLT) office in Slave-Island (PABX unit), have come forward and joined the relief efforts together with many others who contributed by donating essential items, including dry rations as well as monetary aid. Under this programme, the SLT team provided essential items to 67 students of St. Paul’s Girls’ School, Milagiriya, who had been badly affected by the floods. The items provided included school bags, shoes, sanitary items as well as food items worth Rs.200,000. SLT employees, who voluntarily contributed towards this cause, funded
the project.

The items were officially handed over by SLT to St. Paul’s Girls’ School, Milagiriya Principal Sumedha J. Jayaweera recently at the school premises.
