Browns-Mahaweli Authority distribute water pumps to rural farmers

The General Trading Division (GTD) of Brown & Company PLC, in its ongoing project of facilitating rural farmers with BG water pumps, recently distributed water pumps to deserving farmers in the Aralaganwila area.
GTD was selected by the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka as one of the entities to work hand in hand with the authority in the country’s development and cultivation programmes. This decision taken by the Mahaweli Authority is testimony to the strong reputation Browns has established, of being a trusted supplier of high-quality products, rendering efficient services and having built long-standing relationships with dealers and suppliers.
The Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka is tasked with the responsibility of all development and cultivation programmes in the areas served by the Mahaweli Development Programme. This includes rehabilitating and maintenance of the irrigation network, administration of lands, enhancing the production of agriculture and post settlement process. The initiative was officiated at the Aralaganwila School recently, with President Maithripala Sirisena as the chief guest. Those present from Brown & Company PLC were Senior Vice President Human Resources Paduma Subasinghe, Group Chief Financial Officer Thamotharampillai Sanakan, Product Manager Water Pump GTD Sasanka Silva and personnel from the water pump team: Janaka Aluwihare, Manjula Gangodawila, Chanaka Epa, Sasanka Silva, D.G.S.S. Deshappriya, Sanjaya Roshan, Kumara Hettiarachchi and Buddhika Hewage.
The project is carried out in collaboration with the Regional Development Bank (RDB), enabling farmers, the benefit of obtaining BG gold water pumps at reasonable easy payment schemes. Browns’ GTD educated the farmers on the features, usage and maintenance of the water pumps as well as the company’s corporate history and involvement in the agricultural aspects of business.
GTD Deputy General Manager Piyal Pathirana sharing his sentiments on the project stated, “We are indeed honoured to have been given the opportunity to be part of this worthy project. This collaboration between Browns and the Mahaweli Authority assists in uplifting the lives of our farmers. Providing our farmers with tools to carry out their livelihood successfully contributes to generating sustainable economic growth whilst changing the lives of deserving farmers.”
