DPMC conducts training programmes for women three-wheeler drivers

David Pieris Motor Company Limited, pioneers in the automotive sector in Sri Lanka, recently launched a series of training programmes for self-employed women who are trying to make a living driving three-wheelers.

The seminars were conducted islandwide by a panel of experts including the traffic police. Participants were educated on road rules, tips on maintaining their three-wheelers and other skills which will help them provide the best service to their clients. 

Over 1,250 women from various parts of the island have been trained under this initiative, which is an extension of the awareness programmes that David Pieris Motor Company Limited has been conducting for a number of years for predominantly male three-wheeler drivers.

Knowing the rules of the road and understanding the responsibilities and respecting the rights of other road users can help keep our roads safe for both drivers and pedestrians. David Pieris Motor Company Limited has been involved in a number of initiatives in this regard including conducting awareness programmes on road rules and road safety for schoolchildren, three-wheeler drivers and the public in collaboration with traffic police, National Council for Road Safety of the Ministry of Transport, Training Centre of the Accident Ward of the Colombo National Hospital, Education Ministry, etc. 

Driver awareness programmes are also carried out together with driving schools parallel to other community outreach programmes. The company is planning to conduct a minimum of five such programmes per month throughout the island.
