At least 26 train journeys have been cancelled owing to the trade union action launched by a group of engine drivers, the Department of Railways said.
The Deputy General Manager of the Department of Railways N.J. Indipolage said that the management was able to restore two train journeys this morning, while intercity trains will stop at certain railway stations to help passengers who have been inconvenienced due to the strike.
"There has been no written communication of their demands to the Department," Indipolage said when asked of the reasons for the trade union action.
