David Beckham has quashed any hope for a Spice Girls reunion.
In a new interview, the former soccer star, 49, shut down speculation that the girl group — which includes his wife, Victoria Beckham — is planning to go on tour again, reports Page Six.
“Unfortunately, that’s not happening,” he told magazine Variety in a cover story published on Thursday.
Although all five women recently got together, Beckham explained that they are all too busy to squeeze in a tour at the moment.
“Victoria was so pleased to see the girls, and it was a massive part of her life, the girls, but obviously, all the girls have got their own things going on,” he said. “They will do certain things together at certain times.”
The Manchester United legend explained that his wife’s schedule is jam-packed between managing her beauty brand and fashion lines.
“If anyone’s busier than me, it’s her,” he said.
While the girl group will not be hitting the road anytime soon, they reunited in April at Victoria’s 50th birthday party, where they put on an impromptu performance of their 1998 single Stop.
David recorded the moment and posted it online, showing Victoria, Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Melanie “Mel B” Brown standing on a platform doing their signature dance moves from the song’s iconic music video.
“I know it’s what people want, but in all honesty, I think I was the most excited of anyone,” the athlete told the magazine of the performance.
Beckham said he was blown away seeing “all of the girls in one room” again — let alone taking the stage.
“All of the girls haven’t been on a stage together for over 15 years. So, to have them all there, to have them all up on stage, to have our youngest son playing guitar?” he gushed with a smile on his face.
Some fans thought the get-together meant something bigger was in the works, especially after Brown, 49, (aka “Scary Spice”) reshared the clip with the hashtag “#tourdatescomingsoon”.
Brown also recently hinted at a potential reunion tour in honour of the group’s 30th anniversary, which got her kicked out of their group chat.
The Spice Girls rose to fame in the mid-’90s and quickly became one of the biggest-selling female pop groups of all time.
They officially disbanded in 2000, and the last time all five of them performed together was in 2012 at the London Olympics.
While Victoria has not taken the stage since, the other members went on tour without her in 2019. (News.com.au / Page 6)
