Sightseeing
Geneva, like most of Switzerland, is quite simply beautiful. The clean air, snow-capped mountains, crystal clear waters and delightful architecture make for a truly picturesque holiday.
When you fly Emirates to Geneva, you’ll get to see some of the most breath-taking and intricately designed water features in the world; ranging from the spectacular Jet d’Eau blasting over 140 metres into the air above the famous Lake Geneva, to dancing water fountains throughout the city centre. Complementing the water features are a huge variety of hand-carved statues and monuments scattered throughout the city, giving travellers an insight into Geneva’s culture and history.
For those who want a little more than just a sense of Geneva’s human history, the Natural History Museum’s 8,000 square metres of exhibit space is waiting to be explored, offering a glimpse into Switzerland’s prehistoric past. Another must see, is the famous Place Bourg du Four at the heart of old Geneva. With coffee shops and fashion boutiques lining the ancient square, there are few better places in Geneva to relax and unwind, either with a coffee or a little retail therapy.
A few miles outside Geneva is the world-famous CERN science institute. Birthplace of the internet and home to the latest scientific experiments, a tour of this incredible facility will leave your head spinning and your eyes wide open as you marvel at the latest experiments in particle physics set to change the world.
Adrenalin junkies also have plenty to keep them occupied with dozens of ski slopes to fly down in the winter and spectacular mountain-bike trails and hiking in the summer.
Eating out
The local cuisine of Geneva is among some of the finest in all of Europe. With over 1,000 restaurants, the city is the undisputed capital of cuisine in Switzerland. Local specialties include fondue, raclette, lake fish dishes, smoked sausage and a variety of casseroles. As an international city, Geneva also offers visitors the chance to sample food from around the world. Although many of Geneva’s most refined gourmet restaurants are quite pricey and formal, diners can enjoy Geneva’s more relaxed café culture at more reasonable prices.
