Shippers’ Academy organizes Certified Master class on Customs HS codes

Wherever a company or an individual wants to work in an international trading environment, HS knowledge is a key tool for operating efficiently and identify products and duty structures.
The annual training programme on Customs Harmonized Commodity System better known as HS has been organised by the Shippers’ Academy Colombo which will be held for the fifth consecutive year to educate the trading and the service industry who are involved in international trade.
The 2016 one-day Master class is opened for exporters, importers, logistics professionals, bankers, lawyers, insurers, shipping industry, management trainees, new entrants to the trade and consultants in international tradeThe Harmonized Commodity Code System (HS) is an international method of classifying products for trading purposes. This classification is used by customs officials around the world to determine the duties, taxes and regulations that apply to the product under different trade agreements etc. The World Customs Organisation (WCO) and International Trade Centre (ITC) modify and make many changes in this HS system. Traders & all service providers should have a close understanding of the global classification. HS knowledge will help traders & service providers to break into and operate into new markets.
Exporters, importers or a service organisation such as logistics, shipping, banking or insurance need to understand the correct identification of products traded. This knowledge will help companies to reduce cost, access new markets, and take corrective action on insurance and transport costs etc.
The certificate programme will be conducted by J.A.D.A Perera, Deputy Director of Sri Lanka customs on the 20th of January 2015 a t the Sri Lanka foundation from 8.30am -5pm.
