In an effort to bring in some excitement to the lives of the customers of NDB Bank during these uncertain times, Dimuth Karunaratne – Sri Lanka Test Cricket Captain and the bank’s Brand Ambassador, personally joined with NDB to conduct the video Know-Your-Customer verification process for customers.
Accordingly, Karunaratne made a surprise appearance in the online interview where customers were asked several questions to verify their identity prior to opening an account from the safety of their homes utilising the artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
“During these tough times, NDB Bank has provided this amazing technology where potential customers can open an account from the safety of their homes,” Karunaratne said.
“So I was happy to join together with the bank to provide their customers a systematic and safe method to do so.”
NDB is combining the most advanced technology and innovation to redefine what the future of banking would look like for its customers. At a time where minimum contact with others was encouraged, NDB introduced the NEOS Pay feature through the NEOS app, a QR payment method through which customers can make payments to merchants, pay other bills, all the while having access to banking transactions via the same platform. This positioned NDB NEOS as the first in Sri Lanka to enable banking and merchant transactions in one single app.
Adding further convenience, the customers of other banks have also been given the ability to register for NDB NEOS using their other bank account details. This capability is facilitated via the JustPay network and enables other bank customers to carry out merchant and bill payments using QR code facility through the NEOS app.
Adding to the many firsts the bank has achieved in its digital evolution, the video KYC (vKYC) verification utilises the artificial intelligence (AI) technology, enabling customers to open NDB accounts without having to visit a branch. Customers can now conduct their banking activities without interruption amidst the COVID-19 pandemic safely and securely. This process is further enabled due to the partnership between the bank and the Department for Registration of Persons, which allows smooth verification of NIC information, giving customers a hassle-free experience.
The activity caused surprise delight for many customers who were not expecting to see one of their favourite cricketing stars on the call conducting their verification and account opening process. Most were also grateful to the bank for introducing such a service during this critical time.
