105 COVID Treatment Centres established islandwide, with 19,000 beds

Minister appoints nine Deputy Director Generals of Health Services

A total of 105 COVID Treatment Centres have been established islandwide and nearly 19,000 beds have been reserved for those infected at these centres, Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said.  

She said this during inspecting the COVID Treatment Facilities in the Ratnapura District on Saturday (08) on the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. 
Moreover, the Minister appointed nine Deputy Director Generals of Health Services to coordinate the COVID-19 eradication programme, at provincial level. 


The Minister had instructed the Deputy Directors to visit all the provinces to monitor the programme and take immediate action to provide necessary facilities.”


Several more COVID Treatment Centres are also being constructed islandwide under the COVID-19 Suppression Programme implemented by the Health Ministry. 


Such facilities at the Leadership Training Centre, Embilipitiya was also observed by the Minister.   Dr Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services, Dr Lakshmi Somatunga, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Kapila Kannangara, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Director of Health Services and Akila Ellawala, Member of Parliament for Ratnapura District were also present during the visit.
