A total of 129 red notices have been issued through the INTERPOL on Sri Lankan fugitives over various crimes committed in Sri Lanka, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

He said according to reports, the majority of them were staying in Dubai, India or European countries.

He said 40 of the 129 fugitives had been wanted for financial crimes committed in Sri Lanka, while 20 suspects were on the wanted list for various other crimes.
A red notice is a request to law enforcement authorities worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or take similar  legal action.
Currently, the Interpol has 194 member countries and Sri Lanka’s branch is being operated at the CID.

In addition, the INTERPOL also issued blue notices on 87 Sri Lankans. Blue notices are issued to locate, identify or obtain information on a person of interest in a criminal investigation, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, DIG Rohana said steps had been taken to bring back alleged drug trafficker “Kimbula Ele Guna”, who was arrested in India, under the provisions of the SAARC convention and bilateral agreement between Sri Lanka and India.
